Hello All, Sometimes I am forgetting the way the Gmail interface works, and hitting return to move between fields, so I am now sometimes sending an empty message, I apologize. To the gist of what I am wanting to discuss, and ask for help with. I have a Debian 9 box, and somewhat improved internet connection and quota. My previous mobile broadband modem was intermittently rebooting, and other issues. I now have a later device, and the cradle for wired ethernet, much more effective, along with having been given a bigger quota for the same money. The last was not expected. I have managed to install Google Chrome, and sort of watch iView, but the bandwidth appears poor, the sound is ok, but the video apalling, fixed intermittent frames, and sometimes even those low resolution pixellated. I went looking for what might be usable to save to the hard drive for later playback, and found youtube-dl, and successfully installed, even trying to update, maybe successful, maybe not. The problem is that the copy and pasted URL comes up with a HTTP Error 403: Forbidden, after a certain amount of stuffing around to try and sort out the correct URL, the earlier incomplete variants gave an URL Unsupported error. The failure appears to be when it requests the f4m manifest. Any suggestions about what I need to configure, such as User Agent, or alternative software would be appreciated. I thought I found something on the Atlassian site, but cannot find again, yet. Regards, Mark Trickett

I can't seem to get iView to work at all, using Chrome on Debian 9. Looks like flash issues. I haven't tried particularly hard however. -- Brian May <brian@linuxpenguins.xyz> https://linuxpenguins.xyz/brian/

Hi Mark Jeremy Visser wrote python-iview to cater for circumstances like yours. The ABC asked him to stop distributing the program so he did. It is still available and at least one version works. If you have trouble finding a working version let me know off list and I might be able to help. Cheers Nic

As others have noted python-iview works well. I'll sent you an APT repository for that off-list. Also youtube-dl works really well for SBS, so if you have problems with ABC you could spend some time watching SBS which has a huge amount of quality content. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

For me youtube-dl stopped working on iview a month or so ago but appears to be fixed now. On Debian if you install youtube-dl from unstable you should be able to download from iview.

Another one that works for both SBS and ABC is webdl. I'm reluctant to post the url in case that prompts a takedown. If you can't find it contact me off list. Cheers Nic

I find the iView plugin for Kodi works really well. http://aussieaddons.com/addons/abc_iview/ ... they also have addons for the other networks. Whilst a third party effort, they don't support downloading, only streaming, so don't seem to have been issued with takedown notices.

Looking for a specific program, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, that is on the ABC and not SBS. I do agree that SBS has a lot of good programs, but do not get to watching very much of anything, doing too much else. Regards, Mark Trickett

I use webdl, which downloads from all the major FTA tv stations. If you do a search for webdl bitbucket, it's the top result. Sean
