Re: [luv-main] Saturday Oct 29: Shepparton Mini Conference, Install Fest and LUG

I certainly would be interested in attending this event. I have (hopefully, as my dial up line is currently OOO) sent an RSVP to admin@mcginc.com.au. Although I have been using Linux now since 1993 I do not know if I could give any usefull talk as I tend to be going quite a different way (the command line for ever) than most of the newer linux users. When I first connect with Mcmedia for internet accsess probably 7 or 8 years ago of the 3000 users on the ISP there was only me and someone in Mooroopna on the ISP that ran Linux. Lindsay

You could give an introduction to the shell for those who have never used a Linux/Unix system before, then refer them to good online books and resources for more.

Good idea, it's best to keep shell knowledge alive, the GUI tools have their limitations, and commandline operation complements. Even better, basic shell scripting. :) 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL http://vkradio.com

For me, the command line isn't a complement to any other tools; it's the primary and preferred means of interacting with the system. One of my original motivations for becoming a Linux user was to be able to work full-time in a UNIX-like environment, and to avoid moving to a predominantly GUI system, with its constraints and inefficiencies.
