printing with HL2130 in fedora

Hi all, I'm having trouble getting the Brother HL2130 mono laser to print in fedora. When setting it up in ubuntu I just plugged in it, and it automatically added to the list of printers and worked. A forum post about a similar problem with another brother printer suggested installing some foomatic packages, so I've installed all of them in the fedora repos. I've also installed both the drivers available from the brother website for the HL2130 ( http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_prn.h...) and rebooted both the computer and printer. It is now recognising the printer and identifying its' model correctly. If I send any job to it, whether it be to print something, even the printers own test page (which is stored in the printer) or checking the toner levels I just get a notification say that's it's starting the job, and then another one that it's completed, without anything being printed or any of the LEDs on the printer changing. I just checked as I wrote this that it still works fine with ubuntu. Any ideas? Cheers, Bianca

If that ubuntu host is still around, one approach might be to study (or just copy wholesale) the config from that host to the fedora host.

Good idea. The ubuntu host is my laptop and fedora my desktop, so copying between them is not a problem. Bianca - on my phone, please excuse my brevity On Jul 10, 2012 9:48 PM, "Trent W. Buck" <trentbuck@gmail.com> wrote:

I've got a HL2140 running fine with Fedora 16. My experience setting it up was pretty much as you described it for Ubuntu. I didn't have to install anything by hand or modify any packages. I took a look in printers.conf. It seems I'm using the hpijs-pcl5e driver, which I think comes from the foomatic-db package, which should be installed by default.
