I am thinking about running a public DNS server (with Pi-Hole) at home, but not sure if that's safe.
Safe against what?
Probably the most likely risk is the risk your home Internet connection goes offline, and not being able to fix it for days++ while trying to get your upstream provider to fix you ADSL/NBN connection. During which period nobody can resolve your IP addresses. This can be mitagated to some degree by having backup DNS servers located elsewhere (which is probably a good idea anyway). I have had people try to DOS me and max out my bandwidth just because I have an exposed (but secure) SIP port. Never had this happen for DNS however. -- Brian May <brian@linuxpenguins.xyz> https://linuxpenguins.xyz/brian/
