because it makes perfect sense to make a low level system function to mount all disks on boot dependant on some graphical boot logo bullshit.
so, you're stuck with plymouth whether you want it or not.
You can deinstall plymouth(which has all the boot magic in it) and leave just the libplymouth2 there, I think. Thanks for the GRUB related notes. I recently gave up on an attempt to understand what Ubuntu's GRUB is doing. I am tempted to go for a handwritten /boot/grub.conf with the basics next time. Or I install the FreeBSD boot loader to start Ubuntu;-) Apologies for mentioning systemd last time. Ubuntu has upstart. Regards Peter
