I know the above and I'm not even trying to pay attention to database software development. Anybody who has been reading Linux-related news over the last few years would know about MariaDB. People whose job it is to deploy database systems really have no excuse if they aren't aware of major shifts in the field such as the emergence of MariaDB and other forks following Oracle's purchase of Sun.
