the polite way to describe problems with USB hubs  and networking would 
seem to be;
"not robust; due to highly contingent functionality";
since replacing a USB connection to my Epson Artisan 725 printer;
with an Ethernet connection via the router;
I have pretty much given up on USB hubs altogether;
