Sometimes a daemon will hang badly, and the init.d script won't kill it, and killing one process leaves the other processes running. So you have to go in by hand and kill -9 every process. I had this happen several weeks ago, can't remember what daemon it was now. Wish I could remember more details, but at the time was trying to debug another problem entirely. -- Brian May <brian@microcomaustralia.com.au>
