Although the password is correct for the Motel networks I cannot login my SuSe 12.1 notebook. My Android phone can access the network with the password, so I thought it may be a protocol problem. I changed the password protocol in the notebook to WPA2 from WEP.
I cannot account for these symptoms.
Initially I was using the Network Manager, but I couldn't change the protocol, so I switched to the ifup system, but then I screwed everything.
In case it helps, here are notes on how to do WPA PSK, on Debian, using wpa_supplicant (no NM/wicd/wifi-radar). You might also try wicd or wifi-radar, though I cannot vouch for them. http://www.cyber.com.au/~twb/snarf/wifi.txt
