If you 'claim your are the host' (perfectly harmless; try it), Jitsi Meet asks you for a known username/password, and won't let you into the room without it. This is because Russell has (wisely) configured the server in what is called 'secure domain' mode: Only persons who've authenticated as authorised users are permitted to create and thus open rooms. Once a room is open, then anonymous members of the public may then enter it. The Jitsi Project's meet.jit.si server (available for use by the public at large), _by contrast,_ runs in an entirely non-authenticated mode. Anyone may create a room on it, upon request. (Persons in that room can then, however, add a password for entry.)
