No, that's not what I'm suggesting at all. The principle is that you shouldn't be upgrading software on a live Web server that has real users without testing it out first and being confident that it will all work as expected. That applies regardless of what the software is. It's about exercising discipline in the transition process to avoid unwelcome surprises, however unlikely they are - unless of course you don't care about running the risk of lengthy downtime, in which case you can ignore the advice.
