There are some non-kernel processes:

The last one seems strange, is this really meant to be a daemon? Seems to be in a select, according to strace.
The manpage is a stub, it does not explain the options. It states: "This is a temporary tool until init(8) itself gains the necessary flexibility to perform this processing; you should not rely on its behaviour. BUGS Report bugs at <https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mountall/+bugs>" Maybe worth going through the list. I wonder whether you caught one of the bugs. There are some "xxx causes boot to hang". Maybe due to rudimentary error handling? Regards Peter
