Hi Russell, Not sure which machine type you are looking at but the R-series server normally come with 4 x networking ports on the back of them. You can get 2x 1G ports and 2x 10G ports. I would say the thing to look for is just having an SFP+ port. This way when the time comes you can make the call to use either Fibre, Cat 6 or Twinax cabling as you just need to get the right Module for the first two or the Twinax will plug directly into the port. I'm curious about the "$6/week-1" thing. Does your hardware supplier offer hire-purchase or something?
(I think I've rolled out 10G NICs before, but I don't remember the details. I'm pretty sure they were Intel and they Just Worked. Don't remember what connector was used.)
