I agree, I really don't think debian (or anyother distros) would give a damn about oracle and its non-compatible licenses, just look at what happened to sun(oracle) java packages? http://sylvestre.ledru.info/blog/sylvestre/2011/08/26/sun_java6_packages_re moved_from_debian_u You now have to d/l it directly from their website. Whether similar will be done with mysql is yet to be seen, but SCO's come and go...
The removal of Java packages is BECAUSE Debian people care about licenses. Now we do have some automated download systems for non-free software, the most prominent example is the flashplugin-nonfree which downloads and installs the Adobe Flash plugin for web browsers. There have been other such download packages for fonts, for game data, and for other things. So it's not impossible for someone to create a Debian package to go in non-free that downloads Java from the Oracle servers. I'm not aware of Oracle providing MySQL binaries without matching source, can they even do that? But if they did then it would be possible to have a download package but I expect that the Debian Developers in question would stick with the packages that they can build from source in such a case. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/
