Unable to remove file

Hello All, I am running the latest Kubuntu. I am unable to remove a Directory/file from my Home/Public directory. The directory contains a Windows 7 .vdi file - about 23GB The command line is telling me that the directory doesn't exist but then lists it? Is the problem caused by a space in the name and if so how do I overcome this?
