Kindness and open-source projects

"An open-source community comes about once there is an outside contribution to a project; one-person projects aren't really a community. Once you have that, one question is what the purpose of that community is. Collaborating on the maintenance of the project is clearly part of it, but that needs to be balanced with having some fun.
