Depending on how much you plan to use the laptop CF may be an option, I have an old benq celeron mobile 1.6GHz/1GB ram running on a CF (8GB) and it speeds things up a lot in the boot department especially. And with CF at 32GB or greater at reasonable prices these days...
I had a bit of a snoop about for info on CF, and it isn't obvious to me how I could use one on the Acer. I'm now thinking I should just install Linux on the IDE drive and see how it performs. Cheers, -- Regards, Terry Duell
