The Systems Department has an immediate opening for a talented and capable cluster system engineer / administrator. Your skill set will be... The primary skills required include a technical understanding of computers, Linux operating system administration, programming or scripting to implement system services, and a strong understanding of configuration control, change management, and service delivery procedures such as ITIL. It will be advantageous to have familiarity with technologies such as Torque, MOAB or Maui schedulers, operating software deployment tools, high performance parallel file systems (Lustre or GPFS), NFS servers, local area networking, and Windows HPC Cluster management; training in these technologies will be provided for applicants having excellent primary skills. Your role will be... The role will participate in Linux and Windows HPC Cluster installation, configuration, maintenance and operation; managing queuing systems; storage and file systems administration; managing GPGPU platforms; developing system reports; user support for HPC clusters; and providing backup support for networks, email, and desktops (Windows, Linux, and MacOS). Your “customers” will reflect industry as well as academia. Clusters under management include VPAC’s Tango as well as remote operational support, and remote consulting support for a growing number of university and commercial locations. A new cluster will be installed at VPAC later in 2012. The successful applicant will likely have 2 to 5 years relevant system engineering or administration experience, qualifications in a scientific discipline or computer engineering, and interests in deployment and operational support of high performance computing systems.
