A mechanic in the far west needs to have an embedded PC used for tuning BMW
engines fixed. They may be able to bring the PC to your location in a central
Melbourne area if you can't visit their location.
The PC runs a SCO Unix system, has an unknown BIOS password and doesn't boot
from a USB stick or a Debian boot CD. It's rumored to require a system date
change before the DIS software can be updated, but this seemed impossible for
me. Also it's a fairly expensive piece of hardware, so there would be a lot
of unhappiness if it was bricked.
Here are some details from the client:
Group tester one, Siemens touch screen tablet.
GT1, Bmw running DIS base program v52.
(Dis meaning diagnostic information system)
I was wanting to load latest version DIS v57, using images disc supplied.
I ran it and machine would not read it, so another person burnt another copy
from imaged disc and then machine loaded it, but with error message -250.
If upgrade cannot be utilised, then I would be happy to restore it to use v52
as before.
