
As listed on http://www.seek.com.au/job/30319562 IT Manager Newman & St Mary's Colleges Location: Parkville $95K Package neg. + On-Site Car Parking + Lunch The Colleges Newman (www.newman.unimelb.edu.au) and St Mary's (www.stmarys.unimelb.edu.au) Colleges are a co-educational Catholic residential colleges of the University of Melbourne located within the Parkville campus with some 300 and 200 students, tutors and residential staff respectively. The colleges share the Allan and Maria Myers Academic Centre that has tutorial, music practice and Choral rooms, IT facilities and an extensive library. The Role • Reports to the IT Committee which includes the Newman and St Mary's College Business Managers and the Academic Centre Director. • Responsible for the IT infrastructure (hardware, software and associated systems / processes) used by the Colleges and the Academic Centre. • Analysis, development, installation, maintenance, upgrading and fault recovery of all IT systems and providing escalated end-user support when staff or students are unable to resolve issues. • Developing a 'rolling' / evolving IT strategy to meet future IT needs • There is provision for a second IT support position, part or full time, and it is expected that the IT Manager will be involved in shaping that role. The current IT System • Shared network with a mix of Linux and MS Windows servers, most desktops are Windows based together with linked laptops, tablets and smartphones. System includes Cisco, HP, Ruckus, Cambium hardware with DNS, DHCP software, 802.1x authentication, SQL database administration, RADIUS network accounting, LDAP, Active Directory directory services and Linux KVM Virtualisation. • Staff: Full range of services including email, Internet access, file serving, backup and other central services. • Students: mixture of wired and wireless connections to student rooms. • The above LAN is connected to the University of Melbourne campus network. The Person and the expertise needed • Substantial and broad experience in IT system and network administration with 4+ years experience in Windows and Linux server administration and experience with most of the above technology • Well-developed communication, interaction and interpersonal skills – ie the ability to listen and hear, empathise and understand user needs and organizational requirements and then develop and implement appropriate technology and systems • An organised, logical and systematic approach • Understands the Colleges' direction and align the IT strategy • Someone who demonstrates initiative, takes ownership and has a 'can do' attitude along with the ability to exercise independent judgement, initiative and creativity. • Understands and supports the Colleges' Catholic ethos The Employment Benefits St Mary's and Newman Colleges are great places to work.
