linux.conf.au 2015 Geelong Bid - Status update

Dear Colleagues, You're receiving this email as we've identified you as a key stakeholder in our bid to host linux.conf.au in Geelong in 2015, or have previously indicated to us that you'd like to be kept informed of developments here. *We're almost there* We are excited to share with you that the Linux Australia Council will shortly be reaching a decision about the host city for 2015. We expect the Council to have made a decision either on, or shortly after, October 22nd and we will be sure to share the outcome with you all as quickly as possible. It has been an exciting, eye opening process and we are very optimistic about our chances. Hopefully all of the hard work along with your support and encouragement will pay off and then the real work can begin. *What happens if we win?* * * If we are successful in securing linux.conf.au 2015 Geelong (LCA - By The Bay) we will begin putting into place our project plan (available here: http://goo.gl/M2sFi2). At this early stage we would be seeking interested individuals to join the core team to assist in preparing for and running the conference. Some of you may have also heard that we have already tentatively secured one of our keynote speakers. Catarina Mota has told us that she would be delighted to join us in Geelong in 2015. We would need to begin contacting further keynote speakers as soon as possible as many of their schedules are already filling up. *What happens if we are unsuccessful?* * * If we are unsuccessful we will begin planning to submit a bid for linux.conf.au 2016 Geelong. Once again, we would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to further involve themselves in the process for next years' bid. As always your comments, questions and feedback are welcomed. With kind regards David Bell and Kathy Reid
