Geelong Linux and Open Source news August 2012

Ohai awesome folk! Just a quick wrap of Linux and open source news and events that might be of interest. Kind regards, Kathy --- *BarCampMelbourne2012* Was held over the weekend of 28-29th July at UrbanCamp, Royal Park. Much fun was had by all - there were some fabulous presentations, lots of Raspberry Pi action and a number of talks around Arduino. One of my picks of the weekend was this Arduino-based beer brewing setup: http://instagr.am/p/NmzDrrlGgW/ The easiest way to catch up on what you missed out on is with this Eventifier link http://eventifier.co/event/bcm2012 Rumour has it that the next BarCampMelbourne will be a couple of weeks before Easter in 2013 - same location. *Geelong Hackerspace* With thanks to George Patterson who has been doing a lot of liaison with Geelong Amateur Radio Club, we have the beginnings of a Geelong Hackerspace. Keep in the loop on the Google Group; https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/geelong-hackerspace *Open Source Developers Conference 2012* Will be held at UTS Sydney, 4th-7th December. The Call for Papers is now open: http://www.osdc.com.au/call-for-papers *Geelong Web Tech and Social Media Meetup* Next meeting is Wednesday August 22nd; http://www.meetup.com/The-Geelong-Web-Tech-and-Social-Media-MeetUp/ *Linux Users Victoria Meet - Tuesday 7th August* This month's talks are a CMS double bill. Melbourne Drupalista and all round lady of awesome Donna Benjamin will present on the Drupal Association while Simon Dawes will talk about the TYPO3 content management system. Food afterwards at mutually agreed location. http://luv.asn.au/2012/08/07 *Linux.conf.au 2013 - Canberra* CfP has closed with an almost-record number of paper submitted. Don't whinge if you didn't submit, I posted enough reminders :-) Follow the conference @linuxconfau or on #linuxconfau on freenode. Registrations should open in a couple of months. ..... and in other linux.conf.au news.... There is rumour of a Geelong bid for 2014. If you're interested and want to learn more, head on over to: http://lists.linux.org.au/listinfo/lcageelong2014 *DrupalCon in Sydney for first time* For the first time there will be a DrupalCon downunder - planned for just after linux.conf.au closes http://sydney2013.drupal.org/
