From my experience in small organisations, a regular meeting - even if it's a lunch or coffee of three or four people - can make a world of difference. It provides a focus and a sense of being part of a "real" group.

I'm interested in luv-geelong... however I work in Melbourne, so meeting up is difficult. Seeing more Email traffic in the group is also great. Occassionally I could make a meet in Geelong if it's after 5:30pm. Cheers, Matt.
