In GNU/Linux world it is indeed very hard to beat GnuCash for small business applications. I have used it for small service-based business application and if you spend enough time with it you can make it your primary accounting system for small business. GnuCash supports GST and is constantly being developed to introduce more great features. Over the years I learned it does not matter what I use as long as I can track customers, jobs, payment terms, vendors, invoices, inventory, reconciliation etc and these days I use a combination of GnuCash and relatively complex spreadhsheets that let me additionally track what is going on by using colours that stand out on reports (I use LibreOffice here). Depending what stage of your business you are at, you may find you need to use combinations. At the rist of stating the obvious allow me to point out spreadheets have been developed with accounting in mind... There are a few cloud accounting solutions as well (these are mainly US based and may not be fully GST compliant. Search for a good accounting package is indeed a quest I have been on for a number of years. No system is perfect but I have found a relatively happy medium between spreadsheet and accounting package (GnuCash)... The larger the business gets, the larger the need for customisations...
