He will talk about why you would want to use Nmap and give an example of a few scans he did on his own network to show the kind of information that others could collect. Or you could collect on others - depending on which way you lean. Scott used to live in a world where Free and Open didn't really mean much more than being naked and promiscuous at festivals. Then he decided to try a little programming and his world changed forever. He loaded the Fedora OS onto his Macbook and hasn't looked back. But feeling the guilt of taking advantage of everyone else's hard work in the world of free software got to him, so he thought he should find a way to give back even though he's not really competent at writing useful software yet. Scott is now the Vice President of Free Software Melbourne and does his best to help other people who'd like freedom or just any old help with computers in general. He hopes one day to be a Network Admin, and perhaps write some code that some one else thinks is cool. He's helping his son build his first computer too. There will also be the usual casual hands-on workshop, Linux installation, configuration and assistance and advice. Bring your laptop if you need help with a particular issue.
