LUV August 2018 Main Meeting: PF on OpenBSD and fail2ban

PLEASE NOTE CHANGED START TIME Another group has the room before us, so we're starting half an hour later this month. 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday, July 3, 2018 Training Room, Kathleen Syme Library, 251 Faraday Street Carlton VIC 3053 Speakers: * Roger, PF on OpenBSD * Russell Coker, fail2ban Roger will be discussing PF on OpenBSD including an explanation of what PF is, how he uses it, the syntax and rules, logging, and tagging. Roger is a *nix like OS enthusiast and a Django developer. Korn is his shell, XTerm his terminal, vim his editor and PF his packet filter. Python and C always sound good to him. Russell Coker has just installed fail2ban on several of his servers and will talk about how installing and configuring it was surprisingly easy and why it offers significant benefits over iptables rate limiting or having no protection against repeated connection attempts. Russell has done lots of Linux development over the years, mostly involved with Debian. Many of us like to go for dinner nearby after the meeting, typically at Trotters Bistro or Brunetti's in Lygon St. Please let us know if you'd like to join us! Linux Users of Victoria is a subcommittee of Linux Australia.
