Wen Lin will introduce the wonder of Raspberry Pi - a project that has
taken the world by storm since the first RasPi SBC was introduced in Feb
2012. After some intro, he will take the audience through a brief
overview of Raspberry Pi's latest development around the world as well
as a quick glance of a sample of Raspberry Pi related projects in the
Community. Then, in the second half of his session, Wen will go into
some hands-on demos, focussing on getting a Raspberry Pi up and running
as a micro computer running Linux. Wen is not really an expert in the
field of Raspberry Pi, so please look at this session as one novice
sharing his new found experience with other novices.
Wen is currently the Treasurer of LUV. He has been in IT Profession for
about 25 years, primarily in the system admin area - both Windows and
Linux. He started to be active in the Free & Open Source Community since
2004, inspired by the first Software Freedom Day in Melbourne. Nowadays
at work Wen is using RHEL. In his own time, his distros of choice are
Ubuntu/Xubuntu, followed by Fedora & CentOS. For non-OS software,
LibreOffice is one that he has spent a fair bit of time with. Recently
he has also been fascinated with the wonder of Raspberry Pi. Wen has a
particular interest in introducing friends to using Linux and FOSS,
quite often breathing new life into old Windows PCs after converting
them to Linux.
There will also be the usual casual hands-on workshop, Linux
installation, configuration and assistance and advice. Bring your laptop
if you need help with a particular issue.
LUV would like to acknowledge Red Hat for their help in obtaining the
Trinity College venue and VPAC for hosting.
