However it has new terminology, and a different architecture compared to using virtual machines (the technology Docker is most frequently compared with), so it can be confusing at first. This talk is an entry level introduction to Docker. As well as explaining what containerisation is and why it's useful, this talk introduces key terminology and includes practical demonstrations showing the basics of using docker images, containers and docker-compose. Some basic Linux knowledge is assumed, as well as knowing what a network port is. Alec Clews has been using Linux since kernel release 0.99.13p17 (he thinks, it was a long time ago) and works at PaperCut software as the technical integration manager.
