Please note that due to the Melbourne Cup this month's meeting is on Wednesday
Speakers:
• Russell Coker, Computer Science and SELinux
• Lev Lafayette, Parallel Programming
Russell will cover the algorithms and computer science principles implemented in SE Linux. He will also cover some of the history of SE Linux in terms of algorithms and design principles. This talk is about OS design and systems programming. There will be very little content about using SE Linux as that has been covered in other lectures.
Russell Coker has been working on SE Linux since 2001. He writes most of the policy for Debian. He has done lots of other Linux development over the years, mostly involved with Debian development.
Parallel programming is the implementation of simultaneous computation typically applied through either tasks or data. In this introduction the need, core concepts, potential problems, and implementations will be described and illustrated with multiple examples in R, Python, C, and Fortran.
Lev Lafayette is a systems administrator at the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing. He has been a member of the Linux Users of Victoria committee for a very long time, collects postgraduate degrees, plays simulation and roleplaying games, and is known to annoy politicians with regularity.
