LibreOffice - Wen Lin LibreOffice is a free and open-source office suite highly compatible with other major office suites, and is available for a variety of platforms. The applications include a word processor, a spreadsheet, a presentation program, a database system, a vector graphics editor, and an application for mathematical formula. It was founded in September 2010, when members of the OpenOffice.org project formed a new group called "The Document Foundation". The Document Foundation created LibreOffice from their former project in response to Oracle Corporation's purchasing of Sun Microsystems over concerns that Oracle would either discontinue OpenOffice.org, or place restrictions on it as an open source project. Wen, a long-standing member of LUV and current treasurer, will provide an overview to LibreOffice, its development and a few tricks!
