Lev Lafayette will be presenting "An Introduction to High Performance Computing Using Linux" at the March meeting on Saturday. Apologies for the short notice. Please do consider coming to both meetings! Start: Mar 21 2015 12:30 End: Mar 21 2015 16:30 Location: RMIT Building 91, 110 Victoria Street, Carlton South Link: http://luv.asn.au/meetings/map Of the top five hundred computers in the world today, 97% of them run Linux. This is no accident, as Linux offers the best platform for efficient and scalable code. In this introductory session, LUV members will be introduced to the core concepts and architecture behind supercomputing, high-performance computing, and parallel processing, along with an introductory session on an actual HPC system. Lev Lafayette is a systems administrator and trainer at the V3 Alliance (Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing) with many years of experience in high performance computing. He is a former LUV president and current committee member. There will also be the usual casual hands-on workshop, Linux installation, configuration and assistance and advice. Bring your laptop if you need help with a particular issue. LUV would like to acknowledge Red Hat for their help in obtaining the Buzzard Lecture Theatre venue and VPAC for hosting.
