In this introductory session, LUV members will be introduced to the core concepts and architecture behind supercomputing, high-performance computing, and parallel processing, along with an introductory session on an actual HPC system. Lev Lafayette is a systems administrator and trainer at the V3 Alliance (Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing) with many years of experience in high performance computing. He is a former LUV president and current committee member. There will also be the usual casual hands-on workshop, Linux installation, configuration and assistance and advice.
